UP Alumni Council Backs Ambisyon 2040

The University of the Philippines Alumni Council, the advisory body of the UP Alumni Association (UPAA), has pledged its full support for Ambisyon 2040, the government’s long-term economic growth strategy. This resolution was made during their annual meeting on August 18, 2023 at Ang Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman, themed "Handog sa Pamantasan, Pag-alay sa Bayan."

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, UPAA’s 2023 Most Distinguished Alumnus, presented the vision of Ambisyon 2040, emphasizing a future where Filipinos enjoy lives that are “matatag, maginhawa, at panatag” (stable, comfortable, and secure). He stressed the importance of achieving a 6-8.5% annual growth rate through robust infrastructure spending, innovation, and strong partnerships between the government, private sector, and academe.

In response, the council, led by Atty. Raul Reyes, resolved that the UPAA will actively support this vision by fostering academic programs that develop graduates capable of driving economic transformation. The council also committed to participating in initiatives that enhance investment quality and generate meaningful employment.

As an advisory body comprising university officials, alumni leaders, and distinguished awardees, the UP Alumni Council plays a vital role in shaping policies through its resolutions, which are shared with lawmakers and various institutions. By aligning with Ambisyon 2040, UPAA demonstrates its dedication to national development and its belief in education as a catalyst for inclusive growth.
